If you know me, you know I’m about as far from a film guy or designer as it gets. I rarely watch movies. Honestly, I barely even turn on the TV most days.
So why am I currently spending hours playing with AI video tools?
It sounds a bit weird, but hear me out. In a big city like Hong Kong where everyone is already running at 120% speed, you still need practical ways to unwind, keep learning something new, and “let’s be real” try to make a bit of extra cash on the side.
Here are the three main reasons I’m diving into AI video right now, and why I think it’s worth your time too:
- It’s my goofy way to de-stress Life gets hectic. After a long day, sometimes I just want to type a silly idea and generate a 6-second clip that makes zero sense… just to crack myself up. There’s something surprisingly therapeutic about turning a dumb thought into a short video in under two minutes. It completely takes my mind off work and rent.
- It’s the fastest way to keep learning Remember when learning something new meant buying a thick textbook, or paying for a course? By the time those courses get updated today, the tech has already moved on. Short videos have become my main classroom. Watching someone break down a new tool in a few minutes lets me absorb fresh knowledge almost instantly which is exactly what you need in this fast-moving AI world.
- The passive income potential is real (even if I’m still early) We’re all looking for side hustles. Building a YouTube channel or creating video assets is a classic path, but the production wall used to stop normal people like us. AI completely changes that math.
My own channel is still very small and personal right now. Mostly product clips, short videos, and some hiking. But I’m already planning ahead. AI short films and cinematic experiments are next on my list. The barrier that used to stop everyday people has basically disappeared.
The Real Game-Changer: No Expensive Software, No Steep Learning Curve
Before AI, if you wanted a decent video you needed expensive software and months of tearing your hair out learning keyframes and timelines.
Now it’s basically:
- Want an animation? Upload a photo, type a short prompt, and watch it move.
- Want a smooth transition? Upload the first frame and last frame — AI fills in the middle.
- Completely out of ideas? Ask AI to brainstorm the story, storyboard, and even the script for you.
The barrier didn’t just drop. It basically shattered. It has never been easier to take a weird or cool idea stuck in your head and actually put it on screen.
At the end of the day, content still wins. It can make people laugh, it can teach something useful, and yes, it can also help you earn a bit on the side. Just keep it specific, simple, and a little bit attractive.
