Painless AI Lab – A Hong Kong Practitioner’s Real-World AI Journey (Part 4):
After reading my previous three posts, the most common question I get is: “Now that I’ve learned Prompt Engineering, what else should I learn?”
AI is an extremely broad field. It can be as simple as chatting with an LLM to generate text, images, videos, or PPTs — or as complex as automating entire workflows, training models, or building and publishing real apps. After two years of real-world experimentation, here’s my most practical advice.
Why Most People Get Lost Learning AI? Many treat AI as “one subject” instead of a clear learning path. They chase new models and papers every week, but a few months / years later they’re still only using basic prompts. The smart way is to define your goal first, then pick the right level.
The 4 Levels of AI Mastery in 2026

Most working professionals and solopreneurs become very competitive once they reach Level 2. My Real Learning Journey From using AI for sourcing work in 2024 to launching Painless AI Lab in 2026, this is how I progressed:
- Started with Prompt Engineering (Level 1)
- Moved to Level 2 for automation
- Currently at Level 3, build and deploy real apps
The biggest challenges in Hong Kong are regional restrictions (such as Open Ai ChatGPT needs VPN), expensive time, and high living costs. That’s why I only learn things that can create value immediately.

- Pick one skill from the table and spend at least 5 hours on it this week.
- Ask AI to create a personalized learning path for you.
